Chunhyang (성춘향 / 成春香 - Seong Chunhyang) is a 1961 film directed by Shin Sang-ok.[1]

SynopsisEdit

The classic Chunhyang story: Chunhyang, the daughter of the gisaeng Weolmae, falls in love with Mong-nyong, the son of an aristocrat. After promising to marry each other, Mong-nyong must travel to Seoul to take the state exams. While Mong-nyong is away, the new governor, Byeon, lusts for Chunhyang, and, when she refuses his advances, imprisons and tortures her. Mong-nyong passes the exam, and becomes an undercover agent for the King, exposing corrupt officials. He returns to his hometown and discovers Byeon's evil deeds.[1]
